After more tries than I'd care to admit to this winter, finally got a kayak-caught blackmouth! A hatchery 'bout 10# (a take-home model as zee likes to say)

Hit it literally right on the deck at 130ft, on a cutplug herring.  At first I thought it was some shitfish sculpin because it wasn't pulling.  What it was actually doing was shooting to the surface.  Put up a damn good fight and luckily didn't toss the barbless gear during some acrobatics.

I have really taken a liking to river fishin' this winter, but there just is nothing like being out in the salt!  The fact that it was 50 degrees and sunny with no wind sure helps.  Gonna eat well tonite!

Sick fish Rory! I'm jealous. I want some fresh fish! I'm sick of thawing out this fish. It's so last year...

NICE!  Glad you finally managed to get one.

Awesome! So has anyone else caught a winter blackmouth in WA from a kayak (from NWKA)?

Were you using a downrigger Rory?

Nice fish Rory!  Are they fatty and oily like a Springer?  That looks like a perfect fish for Lox.

I know there have been a few.  ohbryant and kallitype for sure.  Probably zee too.

Nah, "smooching".  Like mooching but adapted for the day after valentines.  There's cutplug herring involved.  and tongue.

Nice fish Rory!  Are they fatty and oily like a Springer?  That looks like a perfect fish for Lox.

They are pretty much just like regular chinook.  I haven't ever eaten a springer, but I like fatty and oily!

I wish you weren't so scared to joint AOTY this year.

don't want to embarrass you guys blah blah blah :P
