Hi,

Been itching to get out and fish the salt but have been chained close to home due to work and home improvement obligations.  I am hoping to get out locally (Ballard) over the next couple of weeks and based on the Regs I can either catch and release Salmon or go for some Lings.  I have caught a ling off of Edmonds Pier and have seen them while diving near the ferry dock but other than that I don't have much sense of where to fish for them within a reasonable paddle from Shilshole. My understanding is that Lings like structure and big rocks to hide out around.  Any suggestions on areas that might hold some Lings?  Anyone have any good links for charts that identify bottom structure as my Navonics app charts do not provide much bottom detail/structure.

Thanks,

Tomas

Closest area I know would be south of Alki Point at Me mooks Wah park(or something like that). Paddle south to a bouy and there's the structure. Took Tenhunter out there on opening day and got one 32". Structure is in around 50-70'.

I have caught ling along the Myrtle Edwards path from the kayak. Best luck just south of the grain dock.

Thanks Fungunnin and Fishnut,

Had thought about Myrtle Edwards as the kelp forest seems to be fishy.  I work right next to the grain elevators so it is quite convenient. I have fished off the Pier but never caught a thing though.  Where do yo put in?  There is the parking lot and beach between Pier 89 where I am and the municipal pier 90 (Cruise Ship Pier) but there is a 4-5 foot drop down to the beach which is not so fun with a loaded Yak. Is there a better put in near Pallisades? I will definitely check out the Alki area. Only fished the Elliot bay side for Kings.

Cheers,

Tomas

I have always just launched off that beach by Pier 91. I just slide the yak down the hill.

June 15 is the last day of MA 10 ling season.

How about fishing along the outside of the Shilshole breakwater?

If you check a chart, just south of the Shilshole cut is an area marked "Wrecks" in about 60 FOW.  These are a number of sunken barges and the Omar.  The GPS coords are UNCOMFIRMED, but align with chart markings

N47° 40.433’  W122° 25.355’  (deep barge)
N47° 40.393’  W122° 25.382’ (Omar)
N47° 40.373’  W122° 25.327’ (vertical barge)

Google "Puget Sound Dive" or something similar.  Scuba divers enjoy the same sort of structure as lingcod.
