I might go, anyone have any plans for Saturday? Or the near future?

I've been once on the kayak. Fun and a good workout!

Those look great.  I need to try that sometime.  I love how a person can get out in an urban area like Seattle or Portland and have an abundance of species to target.

Enjoy those fresh spot prawns Mat! April was prawn month for us--lots in the freezer and fresh prawns several times a week. Looking for halibut now...

Yes, traps. The challenging part is that they are down deep, like 200-300' of water. Managing that much rope is a challenge, and it's useful to have a few people work on one trap. Here's a random webpage with a bit more: http://riptidefish.com/puget_sound_spot_shrimp.html

Wow.  Very nice haul!  I wish I could catch them in 200 ft of water.  We typically fish them 350 at the shallowest and down to 600ft in our area.  I had to rig up a downrigger on my yak to haul he pots up.  No way I could manage that much rope...space wise but more relevantly my physical strength.

"The Kayak Fishing Show" Kayak Shrimping

This video demonstrates catching with a reel!

This makes me want to experiment with a reel and some braided line. Heck it might work for crab ring nets or pots. It seems a great way to both save your arms and neatly wind up strong line.
