6/2 Kokanee near Green Peter Dam

I fished GP on the evening bite tonight from my kayak.  I marked lots of fish in 25-35 feet of water (with some schools deeper still) in the waters adjacent to the dam--esp the 100' shelves off the main channel.  Im still new with kokanee fishing, so I didnt boat any tonight.  Hopefully, you'll do better.  There is a parking area across the GP dam road--from there I lowered my yak down the bank (30' @ 20 degrees)  to get on the fish.  Was nice to bypass the marina madness and spend more time on target.

There's a big Kokanee Derby there next Saturday.

how were you getting your gear down to them?  Downriggers?  Lots of weight?  Welcome to the forum.

Last night I was using a small Pink Lady diver http://www.luhrjensen.com/products/divers--planers/pink-lady with a line counter reel (assuming a 2:1 dive ratio and adjusting down 5' every minute there wasn't a strike).  Also was also long lining using a one ounce cone weight on a bead and swivel above my terminal gear.  From what Ive read, this should put it in 20-30 feet of water with a slow troll--but that's more of a crap shoot regarding depth.

Im not sure I could safely deploy and retrieve a manual down rigger from my yak at this stage in the game.

Thanks for the info.  I've got one of those Down planers but I'm not sure the ratio on it.   I should look up the number online.

Them Kokes are big and tasty.  We did well with a few ozs of weight last year!
