Didn't go Today 5/28 as the bar was getting rough. Tomorrow looks better, 10-15kt wind should be fishable in the Adventure.

NW winds today shouldn't be as strong as yesterday's, but the swell is still about 7' and wind is still blowing from the NW. Monday looks like the more user-friendly day, with a smaller swell (5') and S to SW winds. I'm not sure if I'm going to make it anyway, but it would be on Monday if I went out along the jetty.  I might just try to cast from the beach for surf perch. Good luck and have fun!

Went out today, the bar was really rough, rougher than the forecast, the swells were at least 7 feet and were starting to break. I made it past the finger jetties but turned around after I saw the swells breaking in the channel. I stuck close to the Westport Marina and caught some undersized lingcod and tiny (~8") rockfish that I threw back. Not good fishing weather.

The rough seas were a good test of the Adventure. It passed with flying colors and then some. I love how fast it cruises but also how stable it is. It has the stability of a SOT but the speed of a SINK, truly awesome! Its so convenient having all the storage space to bring tons of tackle and have a landing net within arms reach.

Still need to get a full dry suit, safety flag, some Turbo fins and that wheelie cart thing.

Friday looks nice and calm, 5' swell 10kt wind from the S.

I am definitely headed out there on friday, gonna try to hit the water by 6:30am.

That new Gulp Alive rippled mullet is awesome, I highly recommend it. The lingcod and rockfish gobble it up. The only problem is, in my experience, that the swimbait style gulp alive (swimming mullet, grubs etc) get ripped apart quick. Lingcod teeth just destroy gulp  >:(

they arent designed to last forever...but, try using a bit of the Berkely power bait super glue on the head and tail to toughen them up a bit...and, what style of hook are you using??

check the power bait and gulp websites for tips on making them last a bit even with toothy fish...

I use Kalin "S" jigs (1/2-2oz) , they have 5/0 mustad hooks IIRC

there might be another way to rig them. find the biggest baddest weighted swimbait hooks you can find,  like the ones used for bass fishing. then set them up drop shot style, or just plain dropper style....

also, for more info on the kalins jigs, lead heads etc, ; www.unclejosh.com      Then find the Kalins link and look up thier lead heads... might find a better alternative to what you have been using.

gggggrrrrrrr this thing got away from me while typing... and posted itself  ??? ::)

gotta go back and read thru this thread. something else i wanted to touch on but it escapes me right now...

[WR] thanks for the tips, I'm gonna try out the drop shotting. Correct me If I'm wrong, the advantage of drop-shotting is that the weight slides freely on the line and therefore fish can bite the bait and tug on the line without feeling the weight right?

I'm gonna try those weighted swimbait hooks and see how they work as well.

Tomorrow 6/3 ~6am I'm gonna head out as the weather looks nice and calm for a change. 4' seas and S 10kt wind seems very fishable.

My adventure now has Turbo fins and the sailing rudder. I do need some more safety gear, notably need to install the safety flag I already purchased and a VHF radio...

try this. explains it far better than i can.

and you don't need flourocarbon to do it.

also, you can do this by simply doing a dropper loop rig like this;

pay attention to what he says towards the end about placing the weights and hooks. basically it's interchangable the way he does it.

for just basic loop tieing instructions, try this site ;   http://www.leadertec.com/tipsandtechniques/fishing_knots/knots_dropper_loop.html

6/3 Went to the jetty. Some 15kt winds but swells were  ~ 4'.

Lots of underlings. I had a legal ling but he broke off right as I was netting him. I caught my biggest black rockfish to date ~17.5"
