Hello, I think that it is about time that I introduce myself. I'm still new to kayaking and fishing for that matter. I picked up a 13ft sit-in kayak after attending the clinic at Next Adventure. Still rigging it for fishing. I added rod holders and fish finder/gps. Talk about addicting.
My plan was to use it on lakes while camping. I soon found that I like to explore the rivers also. I've been out a couple of times to Scappoose Bay and had a blast. With the water levels so high, I feel like I'm on the bayou. Are there any forum members from Scappoose/St. Helens?

Welcome to the boards sandsquirt!  I've been wanting to check out the Scappoose Bay area.  Have you been catching anything around there?

Thanks, I haven't been out fishing with the kayak yet. I did see someone about 1/4 mile away in his kayak fishing along the shoeline. I imagine he was targeting bass. I wanted to catch him on his way in but i missed him. The Scappoose Bay Marina has rentals for those who need them. They are really friendly in there and have a good photo map of the area. If you google Scappoose Bay Marina map you can head north to the Multnomah Channel and across to Millionaire Lake. I understand that you can paddle all the way onto the lake. Best of all, its only 1/2 hour from Portland.

Welcome Squirt!

While I live in Hillsboro, I do like heading down your way to fish Scapoose Bay, the channel, the sturgeon holes at the confluence and the sand island/warrior rock areas for springers/steelhead.  You've got a ton of fishing possibilities out your way.  Largemouth, Smallmouth, Perch, Walleye, Chinook, Steelhead, Sturgeon, Trout and even the occasional Striper,  You'll be in heaven figureing out all those fisheries.

Been over 10 years since I explored that area, used to fish crappy with my nephew, but the last few times I went back, I did not have luck fishing from shore.  great read and thread.  adding to my list of places to explore.
Hopefully some day I get back into Kayak fishing, for now.  Gotta focus on Life.

I was out exploring the area with my son on Sunday afternoon. No fishing for us that day, but we did see about 20 people along the shore fishing. To draw that many people, they must be catching something. I hope to see you out there someday. I still have only seen one guy kayak fishing the area. I never saw him come to the docks so that I could introduce myself. Have a Good One, Eric.

Hey sandsquirt. Congratulations on getting out. I used to spend my summers at my Grandmother's in St Helens, down by the courthouse. I would fish from the dock, catching nothing but watched some awesome Sturgeon landed. Then, I'd make plans for the next day and hike to Zatterbergs market for junk food (hey, I was a kid and candy bars were a dime). Now I'm old enough to be the Grandparent and living in Vancouver, WA. I just recently caught the kayaking bug, ordered one and am patiently waiting for the day I get to launch. I love going back and visiting your town and all the memories. Maybe someday when I'm in your town, we can hook up and go chase some fish around. Peace and congrats again!

I have been in Scappoose Bay 2x this year.  Both times trolling around and just messing around while me and my wife were sight seeing.  If you get back into that bushy/woodsy area and explore around, there is a good chance you will see some bald eagles up close.  We did both times...it was fantastic.
