Although it's part of the game to get your line a little tangled when stripping it into your lap sitting in your yak, a member of NKCA, Pelican, had a great idea to keep it to a minimum. It's what he labeled a loop pad.

I'll let Pelican take it from here...
Here's a sketch of the "Loop Pad" I use. It's a piece of foam sleeping pad with weed eater line loops  glued in. It fits between your legs ( which form the "basket" ), and does a good job of keeping the line from tangling.

Pretty slick, minimalist solution.. I like it! Will be making one soon.

Hey Z,
Glad we have this new section.  Fly fishing is my method of choice when my boots are in the water but as a neophyte kayaker I am not sure how to start off.

A cane pole, hook, line and worm looks a bit daunting at this stage but hope I get up to speed quickly enough to enjoy throwing the fly past my right ear.
Best,
Mike Mc

Hi olddog and welcome! Fly fishing from the yak is a lot of fun but definitely a cumbersome experience even if you are used to kayaks. I have pretty much only fly fished off a yak and when I tried from shore one day it was a whole different monster. No worries though olddog, it's all a process... and a damn fun one too!!! :headbang: When you land that first fish...  :icon_bounce: :icon_compress:

Check the general tips post on fly fishing from the yak. They are pretty general so feel free to join the post with your questions when you have 'em.
