Was sitting there reading a book and decided to go fishing.  In the garage I somehow drop kick my VHF across the concrete.  On my way to launch, I remember that I forgot my lures.  No big deal, run upstairs and get them.  Head back down and realized that I left my water, trip two back upstairs.  This should have been a clue.

While fishing I turned to get in the stern hatch and managed to snap my rivermate sheath, bye bye knife.  Also during this maneuver my K15 came to life, jumped out, grabbing the seat strap with the front treble and dangling the tail hook which caught me in the left cheek.  OK, these things happen.  Now a head slapping moment occurs when I decide to come back in.  The first time I do not tether a rod, yep waved goodbye as it sank.  My favorite light tackle setup so I head upstairs to get my snag setup (20/0 treble hook) and retrieve it.  Snagged something, tried every angle to get it back.  Third item to the river gods.

Time to call it quits, it's almost dark by now.  Had a heck of a time pulling the barge out of the river.  When I was walking back down to get my flippers and pole I noticed that the yak did not look right.  When I picked up my gear, ta da, the wheels were near by hence the hauling out issue.  And finally, when I stepped into the shower to rinse the river off, it was rather aromatic today, I quickly discovered that my relief zipper was still open thanks to the ice cold shower I was standing in.

In my defense I was having one of those spaced out days, but at least I was floating and ripped some lips.

OK, I feel better now.  Schadenfreude can make the work week so much more bearable.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

I feel better too...I thought that kinda stuff only happened to me.

I will say that this year I have broken two rods while kayak fishing, and those two times are the two days I landed nice kings off the yak. I need to pick up a gross of cheap rods and just ceremoniously snap them before each trip.  lol.

It seems every time out I have some sort of mishap. Some of my more recent misfortunes are dropping my favorite ultra lite (that I'd had for 13 years) in the Columbia, dropping the kayak on the car while sandy (really nice scratches), dropped my camera about 100 times and finally cracked the screen, unloaded the kayak for springer fishing and realized I had forgotten the rod holders, forgot my paddle, forgot the bait, forgot to reseal the zip lock that had my phone in it and dropped it into a nice puddle of salt water, etc. I'm sure there will be more.

damn, seems we all had a bad day. today i watched a forklift operator who is supporting the construction crew at our shop back up over his rear ground guide. as i passed the carnage to act as ground guide for Fort Bliss EMS i noticed his leg might not have been attached at the knee anymore.
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.
