No photo (I can't figure out how to move Picasa file over)  of the 25 1/4" long  x 8.5 pound  rainbow trout/landlocked steelhead I caught yesterday on a green "wedding ring" tipped with a 1/4" piece of power worm.
I was fishing in my Hobie Outback, on the east end in 5-9 feet of water.....line about 75 feet behind me.
I had already caught and released 6 very fat trout in the 10-12" range just west of this location in 10-20' of water when the monster struck.....at first I thought I snagged something as my rod just bent back towards the lure......I grabbed my rod to release some line when the fish pulled again......I knew this was something larger as it started to take drag......I loosened the draw a bit and  after several minutes I netted the fish and dispatched it.
This sucker has a very large girth.....much like a Salmon and the fillets we bright orange......I had already bled the fish.

Funny thing is, the end of last September I hooked a 25 1/4" long x 5.75 pound rainbow on the west end in 3-4 feet of water....it slammed a home made "Kokanee bug" painted to look like a yellow jacket on a #2 hook....that fish jumped several times and ran like hell.
So the moral is the large fish seem to be in the shallows and not in the deep section of the lake and like small lures....I have pinged 180' in the mid section of Lost Lake....trolled with my down rigger at 50 - 70 feet where I see fish and caught squat!

Lost Lake is a great place to fish and camp....I live in Hood River and reach it in 50 minutes from my home......about a 24 mile drive.
They charge $7.00 to park daily or $40.00 for a seasonal parking pass.http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/Smileys/Lots_O_Smileys/banjo.gif

a bunch of co-workers, buddies and I are going to camp there July 13-16. Im planning to bring my outback. Last year we put out craw-fish traps out at night and collected about 2  5 gallon buckets. sorted them out and let the small ones go. Fish during the day and drink during the night.

I think he's talking about the "other" Lost Lake up in the Mt. Hood area.

Lost Lake is north of Mount Hood......coming in from the east is Dee, Oregon on Lost Lake Road...... and to the west of Odell, OR....it's a beautiful location and when the clouds are clear, Mount Hood  to the south is one of the most scenic spots for photos.....the jets let down over Lost Lake coming into PDX from the south. :banjo:

That sounds like one hell of a trout.  I am glad to see someone else tips their spinners with power worms.

ndogg,
I have found that a small piece of garlic scented marsh mellow works too.......the small chunk of a power worm does stay on my #6 hook much better.
If no action with one of the "baits" after 30 minutes, I switch scents.
And then, sometimes the red beaded body wedding ring is the better color......I just try slightly different mouse traps if the action is slow.

I get stuck in a rut, and blow through too many hours with the same lure/bait, rendering my day pretty useless if I don't get bites.
Probably better to have a game plan with a timer or something to keep track of how long I've NOT had success with a given presentation.

I change it up every hour or so, less if i'm just bored senseless.. Depending on time fishing i usual use at least 5 different presentations. Not only do you find what works  but it is just fun to catch 'em different ways.

Guess it's  getting time to fish some freshwater.

Sounds like quite a fish DR, great job and report. Wheres the pic? we gotta see this one!

I can't figure out how to move the pictures from Picasa to the post....sorry. ???

I went back to Lost Lake yesterday and fished in 45F rain, wind and two quick sun breaks.......caught and released 12 fat trout in three hours of trolling.
Today is stellar weather wise, but Lost Lake fills up quickly for the 4th of July.......I like to pick quieter times. :banjo:

Are you running a PC with Windows, or a Mac?

If it's a Windows OS, then Picasa is only the program reading the files on your hard drive (and you probably have other programs that could view the picts, too). Chances are the photos are stored under "My Pictures" in "My Documents".

If a Mac, someone else will have to help. ::)

or upload the original on your computer to the gallery on this site which is only slightly complicated if you haven't done it before.
