Well I was just changing out the rudder on my new Outback and as you all know there are 6 SS 10-24 3/4" Phillips head machine screws with Nylock nuts. As I was taking mine out I noticed that they were very hard to unscrew. I do allot of wrenching and I have felt this before. It is really noticeable when you have a steel bolt into and aluminum part, it will gall. This also happens with SS fasteners though not as often. When ever I use SS hardware I always use anti-seize on the threads of the fasteners. I guess that Hobie has not learned this yet. Anyway I had to cut one of the machine screws out with a hacksaw as it was stripped in the nut. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but I just wanted to warn everyone that is using SS fasteners. The Nylock nut will keep it from backing out. I hope this helps others down the road. ;D

Hmmm...I had no problem whatsoever with mine.  But, I used a DeWalt impact driver with a screwdriver tip to loosen the parts. I don't know if I needed too, but why not? ;D The loosened right up and the sailing rudder went on with no problem.  I love the sailing rudder.  It is very helpful when trolling heavy weight in strong wind or current.

Yup I used an impact driver also on the frozen fastener but no joy. Once a SS fastener is buggered up the best way to get it loose is with heat. Unfortunately that was not an option since everything else is plastic. Maybe the nut or screw had a bur on when they installed it originally. Oh well I got her done and next step is installing my Eagle Cuda 300 I will go out tomorrow and get all the parts and pieces to get her done. Fry's was out of the 8AA battery holders guess I will check out Radio Shack. Also while I am at West Marine I will hit Dick's for some plugs. Thanks for the heads up on the discount.

Have installed 3 of the sailing rudders on Hobies, no problems.
