Looks like fun! Good tip!

Hope to do some more rockfishing later in August when the silvers also start showing up!

Good video. I was curious about the lip gripper. I never heard of them until I started checking into this site and just bought one. On fish #1 an#2 you kind of gave up and grabbed the jig instead. I was wondering why not a net? It'll be a long time until I am ready to go in the salt but that's been one of my questions. I go down your way all the time because I grew up down there and we still have a place at Bandon. Someday I hope to ply the waters there or Port Orford. I know all the ways to get injured by those fish.

Nets are a very sensitive thing to have on board a fishing kayak IMO.  The only time I'll take one out is when targeting large fish which can be retained, but cannot be gaffed(i.e. salmon).  I could see the value in a small one with rubberized mesh for rockfish, trout, bass, etc..  However, a net is a tangle magnet when confined to such a small area.  It's very easy to bring a rockfish or other smaller fish on board by the leader or jig or whatever - too easy for me to consider dealing with a net for small fish.  I LOVE my metal Berkely lip grippers BTW.  Those things grab on and DO NOT let go(unless you accidentally keep your finger near the trigger, DAMHIK).

I don't like to grab the jig when i'm gonna release the fish, why tear 'em up more then you have to, but sometimes they just wont open there darn mouths. A net is a PITA on rockfish cause you gotta still reach in the net and grab the fish and you get spiked more often then not, especially a Ling.
