Hi,

I just signed up for a Fly fishing trip for Albacore on August 20th leaving from the Astoria area.  I will be fishing offshore on Saturday but am interested in kayak fishing on Friday and Sunday.  What fishing opportunities are possible in this area at this time? Salmon? Sturgeon? Anyone interested in meeting up?

Thanks,

Tomas

There's a lot of different salmon options in that area around that time.  Mostly trolling but some good drift fishing, bobber fishing and spinner casting options as well.

It's too early to tell if I'll be fishing down there that weekend but if I am, I'll let you know.

Tuna on the fly sounds like a blast!

I think you can fish for sturgeon in the estuary at that time, but check the regs for sure.  I was told to try the area to the east of Tongue Point in the sand flats.  However, I have not got around to doing so as of yet.

Estuary sturgeon closes at the end of this month, I was down there Sunday and brought back a 43" off of a PB.  Five fish on the boat 3 of them 42"-43" and two monsters at 52" and 53".  Turned back at least 6 more shakers.
If it wasn't for flashbacks, I'd have no memories at all.

Any hints as to where I should go?   Or was Tongue Point a good choice?

We were fishing the incoming tide about mid river, 2 miles up river from the bridge in about 5-6 ft of water.

ya a few salmon come up the river that time of year. There may be a few PBs out there too so keep your eyes open.
My avatar fish was caught Aug 18th last year out of Astoria and I will be making another PB trip down there to Fish on the 16th this year.
