Last week I did a guided trip to buoy 10. My guide suggested that a good place to catch coho from a kayak  would be the mouth of the Sandy. I've only seen the Sandy from my windshield on 84 but took a look on Google earth. It looks like there are some put-ins at the parks close by. You Portland guys, have you fished there? What would be good timing, methods, etc.?  Any safety concerns around there? Does it become a combat zone with boats? Any feedback would be appreciated. I'm thinking of giving it a shot. Thanks in advance.

I assume you mean fishing the mouth (and adjacent area) where it dumps in to the Big C?  Yes you can catch coho and nooks there. Nooks on the hook with wobblers or spinners, and hoho's can be caught throwing spinners (blue fox 4's) or even trolling plugs like warts.   Yes it can get quite crowded, I'd launch at Camas on the Washington side, unless you have an easier yak access point scoped out.  From what I've heard its not happening there quite yet but should turn on soon.  I will be there in a week or so

I made the paddle up from Chinook Landing last year, not a bad paddle by any means.  I wouldn't plan on putting in at the mouth of the Sandy though... Camas wouldn't be a bad deal either.  It can be a boat show, so be ready for that.  I'd imagine you could walk across the Columbia this weekend...
