Hit the salt at Humpy Hollow at 0 dark thirty Sat am. Went down 35' with the downrigger with a white dodger, 16" lead to a pink squid. Nada. Went down to 60' and started to hit fish immediately.
Landed one real nice one around 8 lbs. As it got lighter went down to 80' and continued to get hit.
starting to get the feel of working the rigger and having a fish on at the same time. Ended up landing around 10 fish and keeping 3. Pics to follow.
Sunday went out with my new boss in his friends jet on the Snoho. Lots of boats and pretty slow fishing. worked from the Lowell area up to Snohomish. We boated a few but all released. Most of the fish that were in the river have moved way up. Hardly any surfacing. 1 or 2 here and there but nothing like a school. We also boated several real nice bullheads. SWEET.

Hey fishnut,

I met you a week or so ago at John's.  I have (obviously) since meeting you joined NWKA.  I was out on the Lower sno this morning got two big bucks (biggest was about 8 lbs) right up from the lowell launch.  Boat traffic was crazy.   Do you (or anyone out there) know of a good rig to use at Humpy Hollow -- without a down rigger? Friday I launched off of Picnic Point and threw buzz bombs.  Has one to the boat but that was it.

i would think a buzz bomb jigged vertically would work.  i know it killed the coho and pinks when i used to fish out of a large boat at neah bay.  while buzz bombs are mostly used to cast from shore, they work exceptionally well vertically jigged.  i think jigs would work well and be a little less complicated in a kayak.

Laughingsteelhead. When the fish are really in heavy(you can tell by surfacing schools....not in quite yet as of Sat), you can cast Buzz Bombs into or ahead of these schools. Until then, you can troll with a 4-8oz Banana weight with a white flasher, 16" lead to a pink mini-squid at a real slow troll. If your line starts angling out p 45 degrees or more, stop paddling or peddaling, let line go almost straight up and down and resume SLOW troll. Hope that helps. Also, when fish are in heavy you could jig with a pinkish Wilson Dart or equivilent or Buzz Bomb. Pics still to follow as wife gets new computer syst up and running.

Fishnut, you are slamming them.  Good job!

Fishing is a optimist's endeavor.

I must confess that this year in about 24+ total hours on the water for pinks I have landed just one.  I'm seeing fish on the FF, using pink hoochies with a small silver flasher, and 6-8oz of weight.  I've tried o'dark thirty, I've tried timing the tides, I've tried ignoring the time and tides.  However, I may be trolling too fast.  Thanks.

Looking forward to seeing big catches guys. Going simple has always been something I've strived for and the last few pink years dragging bomb has been good. Real simple. Rig a size 2 pink buzz bomb cast backwards and paddle looking for jumpers. If you find jumpers reel in and paddle to them and cast.
