I keep my Ocean Kayak Trident T-11 (mentioned only for size reference) suspended from rafters in my garage. I can walk under it, still have about a foot between my head and the kayak, so it must be about seven feet off of the concrete. I don’t have my new fish finder, transducer or battery installed yet, but do store two paddles, pfd and my kayak cart in it, as its frees up more floor space.

Anyhow, I had been preparing for the past week to hold a garage sale today. My Nephew and I were about thirty minutes from opening my garage doors. The tables were spread around the garage in a “H” pattern, covering about forty running feet, stacked with new and used things to be sold. Everything was organized, nice and clean, items all priced and things looking almost like a retail store. We were counting out our available change and discussing our last minute game plans when unannounced, three feet behind us and sounding like a shotgun being discharged, one of the straps decided to let go, sending my kayak to the concrete below.

Of course, because the straps are just loops, and each slide over the ends of both the bow and stern, when the bow strap gave, the kayak slid out of the stern loop too. The fall was broken by the whole thing landing on a table, taking the contents to the concrete with it. I’m generally pretty calm about most everything, but have to admit that little event startled me for a second and really, all I could do was laugh my ass off. We were both okay and thank the kayak gods, no prospective shoppers had entered the garage yet.

As happy endings go, after picking up small appliances knick knacks, paddles and my kayak cart that flew about six feet (insayn's bullet proof Granny Walker design), nothing was broken. Oh, and the garage sale? It was okay, but I’m not going to buy a new Hobie anytime soon.

Yikes!  I have my T13 hanging from straps in my garage.  It's hanging right over the Revo.  Off to check the knots and seams!

I hang mine in the garage also. It hangs over my Harley. When I built the straps I Sewed the ended together so that it would not slip past my eye hooks. I am glad that your yak and no one was hurt. That would have left a dent in someone's  head.
