I have a buddy from CA coming in 10 days and would appreciate any advice on fishing eastern WA around Toppenish. I'm planning to possibly lake or stream fish near there one day then maybe hit Beacon Rock/Bonneville area. Also will at least fish a couple of days out of Washougal for smallies, walleye, steelhead and salmon. We may head further down the Columbia depending on the bite reports.  Also could try some of the lakes. I'm pretty open, just want to make sure he catches some fish.

I fish out of a Hobie Tandem Island (see photo) but may also do some fly fishing. to try out my new waders. So many options, so little time!

I'm a newby so any advice would be helpful.

I don't fish WA much but you might want to give Drano a try. Could catch Steelhead or Salmon and its a nice sheltered place to fish.

We went out of washougal today, started fishing just at high tide around 1 and tried wobblers, kwikfish and Superbait loaded with tuna. Fished till 5. No nibbles. The new anchor system was perfect (thanks Ron). Beautiful day to be on the water.

Tomorrow we plan to launch there again and head up river to Ough Reef and Reed Island for Walleye. Supposed to be very windy so I'll be using the sail (sorry guys).

Don't be sorry, sailing is awesome!   I may have to pick your brain about the walleye.  I am not familiar with where to catch them on the Columbia.

According to my "Washington's Best Fishing Maps" book the Camas Slough, Ough Reef and Reed Island are all good Walleye areas. We should be able to try them all Tuesday if we sail, the wind is supposed to be quite strong. I'll post results tomorrow night.

Well we headed out of Washougal around noon and with a reefer sail headed into the teeth of a 15-19 knot East headwind with gusts to 25 and the ever present stiff current of the big C. This was my maiden sail here and I was cautious since there were virtually zero fishermen on the water. We were in pure sailing mode, trampolines furled and no fishing gear n those conditions.

I slowly unfurled the sail as we struggled to make headway. Our plan was to sail up river to Reed Island but it took us three hours to make buoy 48 one mile from our launch. It was a great test of my new Cabela's waders and Guidewear jacket. They were perfect.

We rounded the buoy and were back at the marina in about 15 minutes. Had a great lunch at The Puffin Cafe and decided to head downstream to Lady Island. We made the 2 mile run in about 25 minutes and returned against the current in about an hour. Got in just after sunset at 6:25.

Tomorrow the winds are supposed to be SW at 6-9 knots so we plan to try the 11 mile Reed Island loop again with both tide and wind in our favor. May even troll a bit.

Loads of fun, learned a lot.
