I plucked a couple of Chums yesterday from John's. Put in on the incoming tide and made the paddle "upstream".  Fished until high slack.  There were lot's of jumpers the whole time and the run seems average...  N=2 :-).

Not all chums are equal.... some chum will blow the doors off of coho when eaten side by side. Varies from fishery to fishery and even fish to fish. Just get to them before they turn. A dark pale chum is barely even good enough for smoking....

I agree.  The chums from the longer river systems like the Yukon and Kuskokwim are an EXCELLENT fish.  I put them against kings from other areas. 

I just don't like cohos for some reason.  I have decades of experience in the fish business and I still can't put my finger on why I don't like cohos other than I can't recall a single time where I have had some and thought...That was delicious like I do with the other salmon species.

The only exception is when i have slapped a silver on the grill while out camping 5 minutes after being caught or a situation like that.  They just taste like crap to me when cooked indoors in a kitchen environment.  Lately, all my cohos are either canned, smoked, or salted heavily.

Fish near the surface using flies, corky/yarn , etc. 

I (and I think other NWKA'rs) usually float an anchovy about 18 in. deep.  Find a spot with jumpers and if it's windy or the current is strong, anchor up. Otherwise just drift.
