Cabela's has their kayak carts on sale.  Which would you pick, and why?

I would attempt to make my own that fit into the scupper holes. Somewhere there is a thread on building a cart from a walker. I have read that the strap on carts are a bit of a pain, however that is for those with experience to comment on.

If I had to pick between the two on the website I think I would be tempted by the aluminum since the steel is not described as stainless.

I used to be a HUGE advocate of pvc scupper carts, until ronbo posted some pics of busted out scuppers

That's the thread, but the pics are gone.  That said, I've been using scupper carts for a loooong time and carried some ridiculous loads with them.

In fact, if I'm desperate, I've stopped at Home Despot on the way to a launch, bought a stick of pvc, some tee's, a couple of lawnmower wheels,  some all-thread and nuts, then built one on the spot (George Rodgers park comes to mind ::)  )
But even I build it to strap-on now.

THAT said, save your pennies (dollars), bite the bullet, and buy a wheeleze beach cart with the big tires. It's worth every penny of its kings ransom. :angryfire:

I went with a cart that you need to strap on.  Since my kayak was an off-brand i couldn't find one that fit in the scuppers.

If you can, get a scupper cart, they are way easier.

If you go with one of those, I'd get the aluminum one.

In reality a guy needs two carts.  One scupper cart with "hard" wheels for those short trips from the car to the launch over pavement or gravel etc.  and a strap down style Wheel-ez beach cart with the big wheels if you plan to go anywhere near DRY sand.  I believe the stress put on the scuppers when pulling a loaded yak across a short distance of parking lot is much less then dragging/plowing it across 100yrds of soft sand this is why I like the strap down cart (as the yak is supported with the only real stress being on the straps) for sand as opposed to the scupper carts.  Decide where you fish the most and purchase accordingly.

The collapsable aluminium cart is my extra cart I zip tied pool noodles on you borrowed at both Cape D and Hobuck if that helps you decide.
