Carp for sturgeon bait?

Has anyone ever tried this? I know that folks here and on other forums have mentioned most other fish (panfish, trout, squawfish, sculpin, etc) but I have not heard of carp being mentioned. They are certainly a very bloody fish (I would guess lots of scent). Not sure if their scent is good or bad.

I like fish for carp with my kids from time to time but I have never kept one. I was just thinking that if I do some carp fishing this winter that perhaps I should try keeping one. Any input one way or another would be appreciated.

It will be a while until I get out carp fishing but I will certainly let everyone know how it works when I get to try some. The carp fishing gets pretty tough this time of year. I wish I had thought of this earlier in the year when the carp were easy to come by.

Asian carp, "silverfin" are quite edible.  A lot are eaten in Japan, and I suspect infestations were started in WA by wistful, homesick folks.  Potholes Reservoir is FULL of them.

I've got a healthy supply of carp two blocks from where I live so if they work, I'll actually have a better reason to go catch 'em instead of just wanting to fight a big fish on my bass rod when nothing else is biting.    I imagine that it would suffice as crab bait at the very least.

Nope.  But they sure are scrappy!  Don't taste very good though...
