Oregon's Offshore Rocks

I had a question. We spent a couple of nights a Pacific City during the storm after Christmas so it was not a fishing trip that time. I was reading the placards at the parking lot by the Pelican Pub/Haystack Rock area. The one stated (wish I would have taken notes) that you are not to approach within 500' of offshore rocks. It didn't talk about Haystack Rock in particular but, the way it was worded, made it sound like like you were not supposed to get within 500' of any offshore rock. Is that correct or did I miss something?

Anything south of Tillamook Head, roughly 8 km south of seaslime (seaside) is the northern boundary of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge.  You are correct that you are not allowed within 500' of the islands, even at that distance if someone on shore thinks that you are being a Chester, there is a possibility that you will have the authorities called on you.  Best advice is that if you approach the rocks, and notice that the residents are starting to leave in an agitated state, turn around.

Thanks. You're right, it's there on pages 102-103. I never read the back of the regs before since I've never been offshore. It's in my future,though.
