If I understand the rules for AOTY correctly you have to keep all the fish you submit for the event?  So in the case of a lunker you felt a need to release or for whatever reason that fish can't be counted?

Just looking to have fun my first year with this and contribute to the event!

You do not have to keep a fish that you want to submit for AOTY.  You simply need to be able to legally keep it.  There were several fish I entered last year that I did not take home with me.  Good on ya' for releasing the lunkers - be careful when handling them to get measure pics.  Try and keep them in the water as much as possible.

You don't see me sporting an extra appendage, do you?  ;D  Although now that I think of it, that would make boating a fish and holding the video camera at the same time easier.  Hmmm...

Provided that the extra appendage was not growing out right next to the twig and berries.  ;D
