A buddies brother was down at the mouth of the kenai and was catching silvers last weekend. I knew they trickeled in during the winter but I didnt think they came in this late. But I guess he said they were starting to turn color so maybe they have been in there awhile.

Ive never seen the kenai in the winter so I dont know if its kayakable but he said it was open water at the mouth.

Mouth? As in cooper landing? We have caught silvers there this late. I know people who raft it and catch rainbows all winter long. You just have to deal with the ice ledges to take out...and the cold!  I hear it's rarely hot fishing for the bows but they are there.  Cohos I've caught don't have a whole lot of fight to them but it was ins ago that I did that.

I wonder what's most attractive to those silvers just now.  Are they feeding on sculpins, or striking at annoying flesh flies hitting them on the nose? Seems like it'd be a day of trying everything with fingers crossed... Any ideas?

I've seen them at the confluence this time of year before, often holding behind the island above the ferry crossing.  I don't know about the lower river, though.  Might be worth a day scouting from gravel bar to gravel bar.  I suspect the river's pretty low, but not too low for the IK.

Yeah he probably meant cooper landing. When he said mouth I was thinking the ocean. I didnt ask what they were using.  I would start out with some flashy attractor thing. Im not going to be able to check it out for a couple of weeks. I had to take a couple of side jobs to afford my new stuff!
