I'm new to kayak fishing…just got an Outback this last summer and LOVE IT!  Now I feel like it’s time to start rigging it up with some of the bells and whistles that I’ve seen posted here.  I’ve seen a bunch of great ideas here so I figured I would send this out and see if anyone has already done what I’d like to do and is willing to share some info.

What I’d like to do is install a modular mounting system so I can easily mount/remove equipment depending on the planned activity without putting a bunch of holes in the boat.  For example I may want to have a downrigger, or a rack to hold crab traps, or nothing but my box of tackle and gear.

I’m thinking of some type mounting system that is installed on the yak.  Then fabricating separate plates (maybe thick aluminum plate) with desired equipment pre-mounted; I could then simply switch out plates depending on what I’d like to be outfitted with.

Do you guys know if there is something similar to what I’ve described above on this site somewhere?  Has anyone done something like this to their boat?  I’ve got an idea, but really still trying to figure out what to use for a good solid mount on the kayak.  Any thoughts/ideas?
Dave

Beautiful example of a potential modular system by QuillbackBob

Lots of ideas available on this site with the search and browse functions.
