Hi to all...i first learned about kayak fishing a few years ago watching some guy catch a shark on a kayak on youtube!  i just came across your website today after searching the net for more info.  I currently own a nucanoe that i am getting ready to rig it out for more serious fishing expeditions in my neighborhood.  anyone on this site own a WS tarpon 160i?  i am thinking about getting one.  anybody do any fishing from their kayak up in the Bellingham area or north san juan islands?  i fish this area in my dinosaur powered boat but need a little cardio excercise thus the kayak fishing interest.

Welcome to the madness, HBH. I live across the N. Cascades Pass (Methow Valley) from you and occasionally fish your neighborhood.

Welcome HBH!

Would love to see a review from you on the NuCanoe.

IMO, the t160 is a nice yak for up here.  I'm surprised more people don't paddle them.

i bought the nucanoe a year ago at the local factory warehouse for $300 new...was last years model.  I have spent most of my life on boats, sail boats, motor boats, canoes, inflateables, rafts etc but this was my first "kayak"  so i wanted something as stable and wide as possible to start out.  i watched the youtube vids on the boat first.  I have taken my wife and daughter for rides in it in sheltered saltwater bays around the san juan islands.  it feels comfortable and stable but i am sure compared to a real kayak it paddles like a PIG!  thats why i would like to find a 160i or maybe a OK big game or something like that for more efficient paddling experience.  i am going to rig out the nucanoe this winter for fishing and give it a whirl.  after a few days on the water i may feel more comfortable getting something more efficient.

anyone from up north?

I paddle a WS Tarpon 160, and love it, was just up there paddling around Alki last week. windy, raining sideways, big waves at times.

Ther's a picture here:
 http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,324.0/topicseen.html

I've rigged it with an anchor trolley, and a Scotty mount to hold both spinning/bait and flyrod holders. It has the rudder, but I've never had to use it.

I live in Richland, WA. on the south east side. I paddled the Hanford Reach this summer in a day, 10 hours in the seat, with no complaints ( I'm 5'10" about 230lbs...big boned dammit ( Cartman voice).

Any specific ???

nice fish...i havent been able to find a single WS tarpon 160i anywhere locally...where did you find yours?  i seem to have the same bone structure as you do!  thought about going out today but was too cold and windy for me in this part of the county...i ordered some polypro undies off ebay instead in  hopes that maybe itll warm up enough in the next few weeks to get out on the water...did you try out any OK products before you went for the tarpon?  funny thing is i live about fifteen minute drive from the OK factory so i might have to make a trip over there if i cannot find someone who actually carries the tarpon 160...

I bought mine from KFS back east and had it shipped out.

Alder Creek (WS dealer)came to my town for a kayak symposium and I spoke with them. I try to buy local always, but they didn't seem to thrilled about helping me get one, after one email they said they would get back to me and never did. I guess trying to wrangle a special order kayak from WS is a pain from what I've heard, but not responding to tell me either way sucked.

If I were spending my money again, I would probably buy that new Ok Trident, I'd do a search to see if anyone had anything bad to say, but thats the one. It seems well thought out, and my sole, local kayak shop can get them. ;)

The long thinner design of the Tarpon 160 sure cuts through the water smooth and quick though.

Hey Greyshins

We have not met but my name is Charles Scott, Charliefl66.  I don't know if you have checked into the Ocean kayak Big Game but they still have a few at Sportsman Ware House.  I picked one up at the Federal Way for 625.00 and they gave me a seat too.  It's not as fast as the tarpon 160 but you may want to check one out at that price.

Charlie :)

Hey Charlie,

That sounds like a great price, I'm not looking to buy, as I'm happy with my current kayak.

I wonder if they are any in the Kennewick store, I may have friends who want to jump on that.

Thanks for the tip.

Jay

Nice.

There's ice trying to form on the lakes/rivers here, but I'm going through withdrawals, may have to bust some ice this weekend.
