Drew isn't the only one with waterfowl problems. It sucks the guy died, and I'm sorry his kids have to grow up without a father.

According to that story (which could be highly inaccurate) the guy was not remotely prepared for a swim.  Wearing regular clothing (prob cotton) and boots had more to do with his death than the swan.  It didn't say if he was wearing a PFD, but from the sound of it he probably did not have one on.
