Hey Scotty fans.

I am trying to get caught up on all my projects.  I was sent another prototype product from Scotty recently and I have finally been able to piece together a quick introduction video.  This is a new product that Scotty is releasing soon (they are waiting on packaging I heard) and is perfect for those of us fishing off of a kayak. The Gimbal Adaptor allows you to convert your rear flush mount rod holders into multi-purpose mounting spots. With this adaptor you can mount rod extenders, gear head adaptors, rod holders, camera mounts, downriggers…. on your kayak without drilling more holes in the boats.  I have used this for my downrigger with great results.

Video of the product at: http://thefishwhisperer.ca/scotty-gimbal-adaptor-with-rubber-rings-introduction/

Hope you find this useful.

Cheers!

That is very cool.  I will get one when available for sure.  Lots of uses :)

Would love to get one if it would fit the rod holders in my Revo.  The Hobie molded -in holders look like they are shallower than those in the video.

That looks like a great product.  I would be nice if it came with the Gear Head.

Looks good.  I could have used these a few months back.  I went with Scotty #344 round flush mounts in the place of the other flush mounts in order to get the strength and positioning for my laketroller. I would have had a good look at this unit had it been available at the time.

My one comment is that with use with a downrigger, it looks like it causes the DR to sit a bit high.  For those of us without the height adjustable Lay-z-boy seats as in the Jackson products, I personally could see some ergonomic problems especially when having to crank the DR up from significant depths.

That looks useful--another possibility for a downrigger mount is always good. I'm going to keep my rigger on the milkcrate for now as Scotty makes the 3rd company that's ALMOST got something  great on the market.(Railblaza and Geartrac being the other 2)

If you have your gear at any real depth you'll have to sit side saddle to do it comfortably but I agree it is high. The problem I see is it gives the weight a lot more leverage to pull you over. As low as possible is important for safety offa da kayak.

Of course there is the option of the older Scotty gimbal mount (part no 253) that has a lower profile.

I have an older Scotty gimbal mount (part no 253) and it rattles around inside my useless Revo molded-in rod holders.  However the o-ring idea from the new gimbal adapter gives me an idea.  Unfortunately the useless Revo molded-in rod holders have no ridge on the bottom to engage the gimbal notches so I'll need to find a way to prevent rotation.  Been thinking of installing a downrigger for some time.  Salmon season starts in Puget Sound soon so I better get on it.

I bought one too for my Outback not realizing there was no cross piece at the bottom of the molded in rod holders of the Hobies.  Although, I have found the Outback rod holders to be very useful.
