The GF and I are going to take next week off and take a little road trip.  Itinerary up in the air, but will likely spend a few days in the Pt. Townsend area (PA, etc.).  Curious how it's fishing and any suggestions/recommendations you've got.  Was there later in the summer last year and Pt. Townsend was hot (well, for everyone but I), dunno if that's worth going out in the yak and jigging for some salmon or ??

Feel free to DM/email if you don't want the 411 public.  Hoping to recreate the below image at least once next week.

I have more kayak experience in the area versus kayak fishing, but here are some suggestions...

West of PA near Joyce there is a great Clallam County campground at Salt Creek next to Crescent Bay.  Great camping, good kayaking, and it should have some salmon.  Launch off the beach where Salt Creek enters the bay.  There can be some surf there, but it is a good kayaking area.  There is another boat ramp a few miles east on Freshwater Bay.  You can find some posts on fishing there here on NWKA.  Lots of kayakers paddle between the two bays.

In Port Townsend proper, go to Fort Worden State Park (don't forget you need a parking pass).  Go to the beach and paddle towards the Point Wilson lighthouse.  There can be a nasty tide rip at the Point, so be careful.  If the wind comes up things can go from fun to scarey in a hurry, but there should be some salmon hanging around.

West of PT you can launch at Mystery Bay State Park on Marrowstone Island and go crabbing.

You could also check out Matts Matts Bay near Port Ludlow.  Nice boat launch, great bay for kayaking, not too sure about crabbing, not likely to have salmon unless you go out the narrow harbor entrance.  There are some rocks south of the harbor entrance which should have some fish.  In the bay you should be able to see bald eagles and it is a nice protected area.

For a nice, unpretentious seafood meal go to Scampi and Halibuts in Port Hadlock and order the Caribbean Seafood Stew.

For a great burger, malt, or pie check out the Chimacum Cafe.

The Port Townsend Brewery has free live music and pretty good beer on Wednesdays and Saturday afternoons during the summer.  Right across the highway from the Safeway.

Hope you have a great trip.

Pourhouse for libations (get the BBQ across the street  and bring over if hungry.) The PT Maritime Center at the end of Water St. has what I believe is a free boat launch into Admiralty Inlet proper. Another site to consider might be the launch at Oak Bay County Park (out past Port Hadlock.) It's usually blessedly uncrowded. I don't know how Oak Bay is for salmon run fishing but seems to produce blackmouths at other times. It's a beautiful spot though, so long as you don't get sucked down the PT Ship Canal!
To capture the fish is not all of the fishing. Yet there are circumstances which make this philosophy hard to accept.

Pourhouse, is that new?  Don't recall that from last year and am a damn sucker for beer joints (especially dog friendly ones)

Just a few months old. 8-12 very well-picked rotating kegs and an embarrasingly large (for a small town at least) selection of bottles. Very big beer garden right on the water that might be dog-friendly. No food served but actively encourages BYOF from other establishments.
