Did Jim Martin bring any of his Raptors up from Santa Cruz? Anyone get a chance to paddle one?

I got to see it on top of a vehicle, but was never able to check it on the water.  I still want to check one out though as they seem like they would be a blast in the surf.

I saw that boat at the Depoe Bay launch site headed to out to fish alongside other kayaks.  Noticed the odd hull and didn't know what it was.  Interesting shape for sure.

I'm kind of captivated. I had been thinking Hobie for the MD, but these look like a lot of performance for the price and I may be heading for Nootka Sound in a month. Be nice to have a yak along. Jim seems like a real nice guy.

Yes,Jim Martin is a very nice guy. My brother bought a Raptor from a year ago, and I liked it so much that I bought one too. The are very stable and easy to get in and out of. Great for guys like me who are getting along in our years. It is also a lot easier to haul around because it set flat on racks and I can just slide it on or off my rig. Haven't tried it in surf yet, but not worried at all. Raptor Rider

I took a look at their website but didn't see any stats like weight, width, useful load, price?

Indy, I have been e-mailing with Jim. The Raptor is 13 feet long, 34 inches wide and weighs 60 pounds. Base price is $950, but tell him you are a member here at NWKA and I think you will get a pleasant surprise.

If anyone in the Seattle area wants to demo the Raptor let me know. I have a boat on loan from Jim.

Hi guys,     Thanks for the heads up Fishboy,
Sorry about the delay in getting our website updated.  The specs you see are on the original Sit in model.   The weight capacity of the SOT is figured a conservative 350 lbs.  The increase is due to slight changes to the hull, a little more room in the trunk and slightly wider bow section.   That also made it noticeably faster than the Sit-in model.
You  sit a bit higher than the Sit-In  but I'd say there's still nothing that compares in stability.   The  SOT is still a very new model. That one I brought to the ORC was only the second one released from the mold, a bit deformed, the logo misplaced,,, but I was still very happy with the performance.  Wish I'd thought to mount the compass once that fog rolled in. ;)      Great memories of ORC,,, mostly it went by way too fast.  Can't wait till next year.   Hope to see some of you again at Albion.
         Jim
