I have heard that hatchery kings are moving through this area in droves right now.  I have never fished this area.  Any suggestions on places to launch or areas to target?  I was thinking of launching at Pt Defiance and heading towards to the south end of Vashon from there. But definitely open to suggestions/warnings.

Try three tree point.  Easy kayak launch right at the tip, a few parking spots and a nice beach launch. It's about 100 yards to water over 100' deep. Stay to the south of the point during incoming tide, to the north on the outgoing. Good luck.

Ditto---heard guys on the VHF this Am at 3 tree, they had a nice one in the boat.

Vashon fishing has picked up, you can launch at Tramp Harbor beach and fish north of the KVI radio tower, there's a trench that holds fish about 200 yards north of the point with the tower, you'll see a claybank and then some houses, the trench is about 100 yards east of the houses.  drops from 80 to 110 feet in a matter of yards.

I've launched from Owens Beach in Pt. Defiance Park, pretty short walk to the water from the parking lot.  If you fish Pt. Defiance side, its best at outgoing tide. I've hooked up mooching and trolling.  Don't get caught at the point of Pt. Defiance during incoming tide it can be a long paddle back against the nice current out there.

So how'd you do?  Thinking about heading up to the south Sound/Gig Harbor area this weekend to meet up with some friends but not sure how the action is yet.

I didn't make it out.  Hoping to get down there and target some coho soon.

I hit Three Tree Pt early Sunday with 100 of my best PB friends. About 1/3 to 1/2 of the boats got small coho, didn't see or hear of any Kings brought in. Water is clear, bait is small and scattered, fish are there but not in huge numbers and not concentrated at this point. But ya can't catch them sitting on the sofa is all I know. good luck.
