So.  This morning my wife was reading some news online, or whatever it was.  There was some info about a farm show coming up she wants to take the kids to.  Some highland cattle came up on the screen and I'd mentioned that I'd seen that farm a few miles east of us and that a co-worker had bought half a cow from them a while back and really liked the meat.  That brought out her comment that costs for all food is going to go way up between the drought in the rest of the country and the idiotic monetary policy of the fed.

At this point I mentioned that at least I should, on account of having antlerless tags, be able to fill our freezer with deer and elk meat.  'Course she reminded me that won't eat that meat.

Then she said "Go fishing.  A LOT."   :o

I love my wife.

Once the PE exam is over I'll have to look at what's available to fish for and start hammering that.  Looks like I should be able to work out a couple trips to Hobuck too next summer.

When is the exam?

I want to try and make the straight side of Neah Bay at least one more time before it closes on October 13th.

If you get a lot of the elk made into sausages, using pig fat, she'll just think it's regular sausage.  ;-)

I can try that.  But the kids really like the steaks too.  I usually just get a beef steak for her when I'm cooking elk or deer for the rest of us.

Perhaps you could find someone to trade beef for elk/deer.

I like the wild stuff WAY too much to trade it like that.  She's not a huge red meat eater anyway.  A rib-eye here or there is plenty for her.  She does really like the bottom fish, though salmon wouldn't get me any competition from her.  Got to get to where I can actually catch some halibut.  That's her favorite.  A couple 20# hali would keep her happy for quite a while.  Bigger's better though, of course  ;).

Actually, I think the tastiest 'buts are in the 20-30# "chicken" class.

There's supposedly a spot just a mile out from the Anacortes marina that I might try to hit.  The tuna charter I went on a couple weeks ago  runs halibut/ling cod charters out of Anacortes in the spring.  Might go on one of those trips and mark the location of the hali holes.  1 mile, give or take is totally doable in the yak, depending on currents.
