So I couldn't stand it any longer and bought the last 2007 OK Big Game at Sportsman's Warehouse.  It will now be my river fishing, fly fishing, and crabbing boat (and my wife will paddle it for photography and such when we go on road trips).  Now I need to rig it.

Does anyone have a good suggestion on where to find good prices on OK parts?

I'm thinking of adding the big honking center hatch (mine only has the front hatch).    My Hobie has a small round hatch in this location, and I really like being able to stow tackle boxes, camera, binoculars, etc... in there.

Longer-term, I may also add a rudder, which would require adding a small hatch in the back to get to the  mounting location.

FWIW - I ordered the midship hatch for my Big Game direct from Ocean Kayak, it was relatively painless.  Although I wasn't thrilled that the hatch is grey instead of black, like everything else on the BG.  Haven't installed it yet, but looking to do so soon.  I did some checking around on price and didn't find anyplace much cheaper, and was kinda confused on which hatch to order.  Figured OK would figure that out for me.  Looks like I could have used either of the hatches after all on my OK.

Now that I'm giving it more thought, I am contemplating cutting open the center "storage" area (which currently has the little tray and cup holder) to create a rod-pod like the Trident's have.  It looks to me like the Trident has an identical design, except it opens to the interior of the kayak instead of having the little tray in there.

My reasoning behind this is that I intend to stand up in this kayak to fly cast, and I'm a little concerned about standing on the center hatch (should I install it).

Anyone have thoughts on this?  This guy has done the rod-pod mod to his big game:

You know I think it could take it but just depends on how often you'd be standing in the yak. If you're fishing it everyday it could develop some leaks. Since the "rod pod" mod would take care of access it's be the route to leave you w/ the strongest hull in the long run.

I've heard some talk about it.  Not sure I would have cut it out to the very edge.  Probably would have left more of the ridge ... I was thinking cut at the bottom, not at the top.

If it were my yak, I would do it but leave more of the flat on top, as they mention later in that thread. The angle of that corner would then keep it more rigid.

I can't speak to the specific prices, but I was very impressed w/Karen down at http://www.kayakfishinggear.com/
As I'm new to kayak fishing, I had a bunch of questions that she answered on the phone with no hesitation.  She even directed me to a competitor that might have more info.  She is stoked about kayak fishing and might have some ideas/deals.

Cheers
Todd

Thanks Allen;
I hate dropping into a new forum with overly newbie questions so I tried to get at least some of basics covered 1st....  Like when you eskimo role, don;t you loose your fish.  :)

Serioulsy though, I'm new to the NWest and just "comming back" to fishing and getting geared up.  I'm targeting bass initally but that list will lengthen as I learn more about my options up here.

Cheers
Todd
