So... in short, is sucked... and not in a good way.

I arrived later than I had planned, but that was not a big deal.  This was my first outing on a real river and I didn't know what it was gonna be like so I took my time making sure I had what I needed and got a full night sleep.  The parking lot was a zoo, thankfully that doesn't really matter to guys like us.  I suited up put everything together and into the water I went.  Ahhhh - I was thinking, "This is gonna be good."  Then I thought... stupid rudder isn't working... ahhh, I forgot to undo the tie down on the rudder.  I think, "I can get it without going to shore"... you see where this is going, right.  I climb out on the back of my t13 undo the tie and go to return to my seat and into the water I go... oh, the humiliation.  I still don't know if anyone saw me, but I was offered help from a pb guy who commented on how stable his boat was.  I just said thanks and smiled... it was nice of him to offer to help.  Not all people would be quite so nice on this river.  Anyway, it was good to know I can still get back on my yak... you can do that right... you have done it recently to make sure?  Of course you have.  I start flopping my spinner around and am not catching anything... lots of fish... just nothing biting.  I ask a few going by and the catches are intermittent and most of these guys have been here since sunup.  I keep fishing... and I just kept getting more weirded out... then I figured out what it was... the stinking river was going the wrong direction.  When I figured that out I felt better... then the yelling began.  I was not involved... but some of the pb sporties started yelling and cursing and threatening... it was ugly... and it was aimed at the lady and her husband... that was when I realized it was her talking most of the trash.  Classy... I have only yelled at someone once when I was in my yak... knowing what that sounded like I will never to it again.  I could take you through the rest of the day... but it was just paddling and not catching fish while they jumped all around me.  I did find myself wishing I had brought my trolling rig.  I am also thinking I want to do a float trip from schafer state park - down the satsop and the chehalis to the monty boat ramp (where I put in today)... I just think it would be cool.  As I got out of the water at the end of the day I went to call my wife... I always do when I get out of the water... remember I fell in... well I have one of those dry bags... it wasn't dry... so off to best buy to get my 6th iphone.  Thank goodness I bought that extra warranty.  The fish are there... and I will have them... it is only a matter of time.  They have been warned... oh, and I am now tired of the comments made to me about how a salmon is going to tow me around...

I did well on the Chehalis about 10 days ago between Oakville and Porter. Got 2 kings throwing a spinner. It was my first river kayak and I flipped my yak 2 hrs in and also ruined an iPhone.  That's when I realized I should start doing some research on REAL fishing kayaks.
