My Hobie Outback has four molded-in rod holders. They function well to transport fishing rods and anything else (e.g., fishing net), but they are not adequate for trolling. I solved that issue by installing a Scotty flush deck mount base (#244) and added a Scotty Power Lock rod holder (#230). My second kayak that I use to take my children fishing is a Hobie Oasis. It has two molded-in rod holders towards the stern, which is definitely not good for trolling. I needed to mount two trolling rod holders, but the gunwale surface space on the Oasis is anemic compared to the Outback. I have seen creative mounting ideas from other Oasis owners, but I wanted something “better”.

I found a solution from YakAttack that I’m happy with. The GearTrac (GT90) is a track system that is a base platform to add other mounting hardware such as a rod holder.

The GT90 is narrow, therefore, perfect for narrow gunwales of the Oasis. This track system consists of the GearTrac, stainless steel bolt, stainless steel washers, and stainless steel nut with nylon insert. YakAttack also offers FullBack, an aluminum backing plate for GT90. YakAttack currently offers the GT90 and FullBack in 4”, 8”, 12”, and 16” lengths.

The GT90 feels very light and nicely machined. The corners are rounded, with no sharp edges. The 8” length has five pre-drilled holes for mounting. The companion FullBack has threaded holes to match GT90 mounting holes.

To install: place the GT90 on the mounting surface, mark the mounting holes, then drill out each hole from the mounting surface. When not using the FullBack, the GT90 is attached by installing the supplied bolt with washer and nut. When using the FullBack, the washer and nut are not used. The bolt will screw directly into the threaded FullBack.

To complete the rod holder install, I installed a MightyMount with a Scotty base (#241).

As of this writing, I have not had the opportunity to test the install on water. However, I have dry tested by placing a fishing rod in the holder and pulling on the line to simulate force exerted by trolling and fish action. GT90 installed with FullBack is very sturdy, and will work well for all my trolling needs. GT90 installed with washer and nut will work for lighter trolling. YakAttack also offers 1” and 1.5” screwballs for RAM mounts that fit perfectly on the GT90.

I am very satisfied with YakAttack products in this review. If a narrow track is a requirement (either technical or aesthetic) for your installation, GT90 is a good option to explore. Luther and YakAttack will take care of you.

I second what Spot said.  I have the wider tracks on my Revo and I love them, definitely one of the best kayak fishing accessories I have purchased.

Good stuff!  I've been waiting for NA to get these in stock but may just order direct if they don't have 'em soon.

Where did you put them on the Revo?  Could you take and post a photo or two?
