My friend Jim ("InSeine" on the NCKA board) was driving through Portland this week on his way from his parents place in Idaho back to California.  Turns out Portland is about halfway, so he's crashing with me for a day or so.

Anyway, we managed to get out to St. Johns for some sturgeon fishing for a few hours today.

The action was pretty slow, but Jim managed to get his sturgeon so he's a happy customer.

I think I'm done with these little sturgeon for awhile.  I guess I'll wait until May/June for Astoria sturgeon.   Time now to start thinking about springers.

Good Job!  I'm jealous......

According to the reports, there are Springers being picked up every day now in the M/C and the Willamette.  Go get'em!

Nice work on getting out there. Those little buggers are awfully cute! :love5: I feel you about Astoria. Looking forward to fishing it.

Also feeling Drano for the Springers. Once the numbers are up I'm so there. Maybe we can get a carpool for the Seattle boyz together. I for one will be doing the trip. Anyone else in?

Oh yeah!  Feels like it ought to be more than a 24hour event.. Any good places to camp in the area?

I think I'm for either trip (Astoria or Drano).

Here's some preliminary camping info..

Astoria doesn't seem to have any decent camping near the flats, but there is tent camping at Fort Stevens State Park.

As for Drano Lake.. Viento State Park is just across the Columbia on the Oregon side.

It's an 18 mile drive to get to Drano Lake from the park or about a 1 mile paddle but I don't know how the current is around there.

I'm up for Astoria for sure. Drano i'll have to play by ear.

I'll pretty much leave deciding the days up to you guys, I have less responsibilities then most here most likely.
See ya on the water..

Ft Stevens is a nice park and also has yurts, besides tent camping. Makes it nice during lousy weather. (Less to pack, too.) Good dino action around Hammond and Warren, which are nearby.

guys, gimme a date for Drano.. it's the only way i'll be able to tell for sure..astoria?? not so sure about...

camping in a yurt sounds lots better than digging out the tent and stuff from storage..they sleep like , what? 8? 10? or am i thinking too large?

don't forget, i can carry one more with me in my f150 , plus car top his yak too, [ you'll need to supply your own pillow blocks and straps/tie down tho] if there is anyone in the graham/puyallup/tacoma/oly area that needs a ride or wants to share a ride.. ..

The yurts have one bunk bed and one futon<sic>.  They can sleep 8 if you don't mind sharing a bunk or sleeping on the floor.  BTW: The yurts go quick
