Is there a fish god like Loki? You know, someone who plays practical jokes on us unsuspecting fisherman. This is when I catch fish:

1) I have put the pole in the holder to tie another hook. (fish strikes as I have my hands full of hooks and line)
2) I am looking into the hold for lunch.
3) After two hours of rapt attention. I decide to sit back and relax and close my eyes
4) I am talking to my wife on the phone and explaining why I haven't caught any fish.
5) I realize I am late and am in a hurry to get somewhere.

Do the fish just sit there and wait for the moment. I can see it now some unsuspecting angler floats by.
Fish one "Watch this, I am going to make him spew that mouthful of chips"
Fish two " I've got two clams that say you can't"
Fish one strikes the lure as the poor guy has one hand in the bag, one holding onto it and a mouthful of chips. The pole goes down the guy yells and the potato chips fly.
The scene ends with fish one coming down and high finning fish two as he pays up the clams. I am starting to think that we are entertainment for our fellows beneath the waves.

Why is it when I am trying to shoe off the seal that is looking at me, that I get the only take down of the day! This was my fourth bite in 17 days of salmon fishing! Needless to say, the bite didn't stick!

When the bite is not so good, i sometime look for distractions and whatnot- knowing that once i lose concentration on fishing it usually draws a strike- therefore i try to use this to my advantage-

"Midstream Mayem!"   LMAO

Damn wobbler you are giving away my secret technique.  Back in the day my favorite trout technique was power bait and a nap.

I'm in Ndogg's camp. Power bait, nice 70 degree temps, ice cold soda, and loop of line around my toe or finger. Yours eyes start to get heavy and you start to fade in and out of consciousness. Just as your eyes finally close and the last bit of light finally fades away. BAM!  The fish hits rips the line off your digit, you wake up startled. It takes a few seconds to register what's going on, and then it comes to you "fish on". Seems to work every time. One of my favorite ways to fish.
