Hello,
I'm a 26-yr Air Force SNCO recently assigned to JBLM and have discovered Kayak fishing. Started out using a Kayak on the Nisqually to get away from the crowds and have recently discovered mooching in the south sound. My first (serious) trip out this morning and I landed one very nice Chinook in the 12-15 lb range and lost another to a sea lion...guess we both had good luck! I have a couple pictures (I never brag unless I have a picture to back it up) but I'm having trouble sizing them to allow upload.

Anyways, the sound was like glass at daybreak when I launched but soon after I boated my fish, the rain and wind started to kick up and I had a blustery paddle back to the Jeep...a great day!

I'm interested in finding others in the Lakewood area to fish with.

There is a decent sized group of us in the south sound.  Keep your eye open as many of us will post before we go.

Hey dude!
I think I ran into you at Nisqually.
I was in the little tan SOT paddling out as you were coming in.
I didn't have any luck that day, but decided to call it a short day after running into a flock of
duck hunters. Anyway, let me know if you want company next time; I'm in Tacoma but that launch is plenty close enough for me.

Yup, you sure did! I didn't think to ask if you were a NWKA member until after you'd paddled (peddled) off. How'd you do...find any cut throats?

I'm always ready to fish and would be willing to travel as well. I'm fairly new to the area and would love to get introduced to some new spots. I went out from Solo Point this AM after Blackmouth but struck out...the Sound got very rough!

No love from the cutts that day.
I want to keep working that area though.
I also want to try hood canal; there are a number of rivers that feed the canal off of the eastern slopes of the Olympics, so I am thinking (hoping) that will be a productive area for cutthroat.
My little SOT is just a little bit scary in rougher water; I've only had it a few weeks, and I'm not very confident in it yet.
Your luck with the bottom fish got me thinking about a setup for that kind of fishing. I am really just set for fly fishing, but there are limits on what I can do with fly gear, especially from a Kayak.
