Hey guys,

I have all ready gotten my daughter into the caper but I have a 2 boys 4 and 5 that are starting to ask about kayaks,  I was looking at the KEA will it work for the small ones or should  wait a couple more years and get a caper each?  btw I will be starting them off in small lakes and such for a few years..

If you want some real fun, I'd get them a tandem kayak of some sort, then sit back and watch from a distance.

Seriously though, I think Capers might be a bit to wide for 4 and 5 year olds to handle effectively.  The Kea IMO is probably ideal and they could paddle them for several years until they are 10 or so (depending on their weight).

Kea 8'11" x 24.5"  130 lb capacity
Caper 11' x 31"  275 lb capacity

The Kea also doesn't have the large front hatch that the Caper does which means there's less of a chance for your young ones can accidentally swamp it.

was gonna suggest a mini x but that might be way more than they could handle being that young?

You could get 3 Keas for the price of two Mini-Xs (~$350 x 3 =  $1050 vs ~$550 x 2 = $1100).
