Tourney Results:

It's tough to accurately complete all the tabulating and compiling, and the team works hard to pull it off.  This year we had an unfortunate oversight when we left Brian Flood / TheDude out of the scoring when he should've gotten 7th place.  I thank Ron Saufferer for bringing it to my attention, and sorry, Brian, for the screwup!  I sent you something worthwhile in the mail - hopefully it makes up for our mistake.   :smt001

First place and Sportsman of the Day for highest all release score with 635.25 was Jim Jackson / Salty. - all fish released, release bonus on two fish including a 24"+ cab
Second with 618.75 was Shannon Jay / SRJ - all fish released, release bonus on two fish including a 33" ling
Third with 607.75 was Gary Charles / Bull Shark with 2 releases including a 23.5" cab
Fourth with 599.75 was Marcos Marroquin / Rockroach with 2 releases including a 23" cab
Fifth with 598.5 was Kiet Pham / Fried Bluegill - brought in a 34.75" ling and would've won the whole enchilada if he released that ling and his 22" cab (sorry, Kiet!   :smt003)
Sixth with 580 was Roland Abiva / PWD9MM (NWKA)
Seventh with 568.75 was Brian Flood / TheDude
Eighth with 555.5 was Jim Bennion / Cranky
Ninth was a tie at 530 between David Mason / Goldendog (NWKA)
and Chris Mayes / Clayman
11th - 526.25 - Erik Schmidt (NWKA)
12th - 521.75 - Brian Takagi
13th - 521 - Jeff Ornellas - 3 bonus releases but couldn't get a rockfish - 16.5" rocky would've won it (Sorry, JeffO!   :smt003)
14th - 509 - Jeff Baker
15th - 499.25 - Aaron Rough
16th - 441.5 - Ron Saufferer
17th - 438 - Terry Saufferer
18th - 429.75 - Russ Martin
19th - 424.5 - Roger Shu
20th - 424.5 - Allen Leepin
21st - 420.25 - Kevin Johnson
22nd - 419 - Ruben Ledesma
23rd - 418.75 - James Pratt
24th - 417 - Jim Gosciminski
25th 416.5 - Tony Novelozo

Big salmon went to HobieDave Royston with a FAT 33.75" king that weighed in at a whopping 19 pounds!  That's a FAT salmon!!

Big lingcod and big fish of the day went to Michael Dilbeck with his 35.5" lingcod.

There was a special prize for most unique catch of the weekend.  Etienne Constable / Sackyack made a cool abalone hook pendant that went to Andy Morales / Fish Master1 for his catch of a Giant Octopus!

It was great fun to see people come in with their fish and to watch the leader board change over a few hours.  I couldn't have come close to finishing the scoring process without my team.  Thank you, Team!   :smt001

I didn't keep track of who won what prize, but it was cool to have enough stuff to go deep to around 25th place.

You guys did great!!!!!!!

These were definitely the best conditions I have seen up there in the past 4 years, and everybody had a great time!!  ;D

For me...I dove the first two days and fished the third...I only caught one fish worth keeping so probably should have just dove instead.  ;)

Here is my underwater report:

4 years of failure to spear any fish on my annual pilgrimage to Shelter Cove finally came to a glorious end!

 8)

Conditions were stellar and I got a nice 25.5 inch Ling, a few blacks, loads of uni and meaty abs between 8 and 9.75 inches (my new PB!)

Helped some bros find some good abs as well, and loaded up several passing kayakers with uni as they came by.   ;D

One of the diving highlights for me did not involve a fish or an abalone or a sea urchin but rather a crab trap...

While enjoying a few post dive beers Thursday night Steve aka DryBones and his brother told me that they had dropped a crab trap in 30+ feet of water but had forgot to put a float on it! They had GPSed the spot and were wondering if I would try and dive to find it.   :D

Next morning we paddled out to the spot and I dropped my marker and clipped my yak off to Steve's. Second dive down to the bottom at 38 feet I found the trap line and rose to the surface triumphantly.   ;D

Felt cool to stoke Steve and his brother out.    :)

Can't wait to get back up there again!!!

 :hello:

Sincerely,

Jim

That abalone poke was da bomb.

And we had full bowls of uni flowing at various campsites.  I was in heaven!

Thanks. Kiel and I make a good team.  8)

Yeah dude...I harvested a TON of uni this year...and it all got devoured in various ways.  ;D

I found a new uni honey hole the weekend after at Albion too...was getting them 5 at a time...did 5 dives for 25 urchins and then decided that was enough.  :D

Sincerely,

Jim
