Hi everybody, I just moved  to Portland from Michigan and I can't wait to get my kayak out on the water. I've had my boat in several of the great lakes and off shore in NC and in the Gulf of Mexico. Can't wait to hook up with some like minded individuals and go after some ling, halibut or rockfish. Not to mention the great river fishing around Portland.  Glad to be here and I look forward to meeting up with folks from here and to get a nice sleigh ride from a big salmon or ocean beast!  Cheers , Bernie

Welcome to the site Bernie. Whereabouts in Michigan are you from? Originally from Midland, always good to see another displaced michigander!

Yup :) Where about in Portland do you live? Spring salmon season will also get going in about a month. Watch for meet ups or upcoming seminars (free).

I live in SW Portland in  South Burlingame, just up the hill from Willamette Park. That looks like a good place to lauch the kayak. How is the fishing in that area?

It's a good spot once the springer chinook (springers) get in. There is also some bass fishing around there too. The ramp will get super crowded though at the peak of springer season. George Rogers park just up the river in lake Oswego is usually an better option. No power boats on the ramp there, but you need a cart to get down to the river. Great sturgeon spot there too. Send me a pm if you ever want to fish. I'm in sw too.
