After my lead acid brick just died, I've been looking into those li-po battery but apparently they have memory issues, and you have to draw draw the whole battery to prevent this. Is this your collective understanding?
Thanks!

To bring up an old thread...   Some of you mentioned that you were going to order the compact battery from Amazon;

http://www.amazon.com/EZOPower-High-capacity-Rechargable--10000mAh-Blackberry/dp/B005XQSN9G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360872258&sr=8-1&keywords=Li-ion+Super+Rechargeable+Battery+12+V+9800

Did anyone actually try it?  I'm about to order one and I'd like to hear a blessing from someone with experience.

Yup, they work great. Go for it.

I went with the 15000 version and am happy as a clam.  I can fish all day long with this battery and still have juice to spare.

My only issue so far has been wear on the input power connector.  The connection is occasionally lost if I move the unit when charging.  Other that, it's functioned perfectly.

The link to the item above doesn't have a 12V output.  I must be missing something on how to use this item to power a fish finder?

Yeah, it does. It's called the "output" jack or something like that. It's a common sleeve DC jack that can provide either 9 or 12 volts. The tricky part with this output DC power jack is going from a DC plug to your power connection of you sonar unit.

I too have used one of these battery units to power my sonar and they are great. I would recommend going with one that is rated for at least 15000 mAh though. The 10000mAh unit can't seem to power my hummingbird unit for my average outing on the water. I may upgrade to the 15000 or 20000 model soon when I get tired of my heavy gel cell.

I see the 12V output now.   Thanks for the explanation.
When I selected the 15000 mAh size on the link, a different item came up and THAT didn't have the 12V output.

I broke down and ordered one with 20,000 mAh;

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FDER0L0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

(at least that's what they claim) and it seems to have good reviews.  I also ordered this usb cable that would appear to make it easy to adapt it to the Elite 4 HDI;

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F167PWE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks for all the input!

Umm... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this thing is only going to be able to give you 5 volts. You're going to need at least 9 volts, preferably 12. USB outputs are only rated for 5 volts, no more. If you really want to use this battery, you need to get a stand alone DC to DC converter to step the voltage up to around 12 volts. You can find them on amazon but in my experience  they can be very inefficient.

If you want one of these rechargeable li-ion batteries in a 20000 mAh model you need one like this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005NGLTZQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1417719364&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SY200_QL40

This one has a 12 volt output built into it.

Thanks guys!  This is why I get on these forums.  I just cancelled my order and will order the battery Rawkfish suggested.  It's a bit more than I planned on but a lot of power and excellent reviews.  Might be too flashy to be tucked in a box inside a kayak, but it'll sure look nice charging in the garage.

Thanks to the good advice I received on here I have purchased this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NGKR54/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Its 15000MAH and has a 9/12v output. I am in the middle of testing it now. I am testing it on my Lowrance Mark-4 as we speak. The battery has only been running at 9V. I shut the unit off and reconnected a couple times. It decided on 9V every time. There was 73% battery remaining after 6 hours (I can update later on the end results).

I contacted Anker to see about getting another 9/12v cable and they asked for $5 and are sending me one.

Just thought I would share as well....

Keep us updated.   It may be a few weeks before I get mine set up and running, but I'll let you know how it works.

I saw this at lowes the other day. http://www.lowes.com/pd_573361-74342-CA-9801_0__?productId=50179123&Ntt=jump+start+battery&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Djump%2Bstart%2Bbattery&facetInfo=

Pilot InstaBoost 400-Amp Car Battery Jump Starter with Multi Charger.

I claims to have 10 amp output @ 12 volts to rum spotlights and air pumps.
