Younggun and I took my brother out to George Rogers yesterday - Younggun to (unsuccessfully) troll for springers, and me to demo the Oasis in a (most likely successful) effort to buy an Oasis for himself and his wife. Anyway, just upstream from Elk Rock, we watched as a big bull seal lion caught and ate a small keeper size sturgeon. That bull sure slung that dino around before he managed to bite the head off. After he killed it, he started paying attention to us circling him. I think he might have tried to run us off if we got any closer. Pete managed to get some stills and a bit of video:

Nice camera work. There are some big suckers that work that area. Isn't there supposed to be some hazing going on in that area? They'll also do some springer munching down by the park too. You can ask Jammer about that ;)

Great footage.  I will say that I have witnessed more wildlife: Whales, otters, seals, sea lions, birds...FISH in several years on my kayak than I have ever have on a powerboat.  I don't know if its the stealth or just paying more attention of your surroundings at 2knts vs 20knts on a powerboat but it definitely the number two reason I love this kayak angling thing.  Number one is I really think I catch more fish through the season because of accessibility and more attention to detail.

Number three reason is I hear its a lot better for you health wise but unfortunately I don't use that as a criteria for my fishing...

Hazing is all at the falls.  I think the idea is to keep them from camping on the entrances to the fish ladders.  I can hear it plain as day from my house.

Jammer... We KNOW you are just getting tired of catching those small thirty pound kings and sturgeon and was probably trolling that king looking for a bigger challenge at the end of your line!

That is very cool.  Funny, I think you guys peddled past me yesterday; I was anchored just down from Rodgers.  A sea lion swam right past me not too long after heading up stream...I'm betting this is the same guy.  It definitely startled me; I've never been that close to one and I wasn't really expecting it.

Great footage!

I had no idea the FB was close by or I would have hurried that fish in.

Langston, I and IHop were out at GRs on Friday. We were just getting into the sturgeon when the FB came to visit. We had sturgeon playing with are lines but did nothing for fear of the Sea lion. All I could think of was being it's server.

I hate those furbags.  You should post the pics and video somewhere were the folks from ODFW or NOAA will see it.  It is a good example of a California sea lion eating a sturgeon.

Gah, I hate seals/sea lions. I had a seal ruin one of my reels last year. I hooked into a nice fat chinook on my steelhead set up... Where I fish, the seals hang out in the channel faced toward the bank waiting for someone to have a fish on the line. They are a good 100 yards out or so and as soon as they see a fish splash or a bent rod they are on your fish's ass in about three seconds. I was trying to play it cool like I didn't have a fish on but the thing decided to go airborne. I was hoping that the seal wouldn't notice. Then all of a sudden my line went slack and I was "like PISSS! She got my fish!". Turned out the fish was headed straight at me. The fish was swimming for its life...it's amazing how much faster these fish are when there is a seal on their ass! With my line still slack the fish made a quick turn back for the channel and the sheer speed of the fish  and the seal grabbing it burned a hole right in the plastic guide of my reel! Now there's two track marks in that guide. The line likes to catch on those track marks when I cast  so I have to make sure the line seats in the guide. That first track mark turned into two track marks after another chinook took off with the line feeding through the original mark. I heard a ZIIIIIP! and the line snapped. I think that set up is lucky though...I caught twelve salmon in a couple hours on that set up, two days in a row. Even with the burned out reel guide. I don't think I'm going to be that successful this year on my kayak. That was the best bank fishing I have ever had in my life. Too add more awesome to this story. A week before all of this I broke my hand when I slipped and fell on some rocks when trying to net a fish for someone. My hand was in a cast and I had the crank switched to the other side so I could still fish. It was pretty hard casting and reeling in fish as a lefty...

Sorry for the novel...
