Thanks for the great seminar Spot and Jammer.   Sorry I won't make it out on Saturday, but I'm really looking forward to the photos of the multicolored happy kayak angler parade at Davis Bar that will be posted on IFish this weekend.  Wave your safety flags proudly.

I'd like to say thanks to all those who attended last night!  It was great seeing all you experienced guys as well as meeting so many new-to-me people who are obviously stoked on kayak fishing.

I'd also like to thank Hoggs for hosting us!  The support they show for our madness is amazing.  Remember, if they don't have what you need, let them know.  They focus on what their customers need and order the goods their customers want.

Finally, a big thanks to Jake from Next Adventure.  He was gracious enough to have a back-up projector and screen as well as blue-tooth mouse for us to use and was indispensible in fielding the boat and gear questions that people had.

I wasn't prepared to buy anything last night, but I have to say that the prices and selection at Hogg's were pretty amazing.   The fact that they're a small mom and pop type shop makes it even better.    Now that I know what they have I'll need to make a big list and stop by in Hillsboro next time I'm in the area.  I figure it might be 15 minutes out of the way if I'm already headed  to Henry Hagg Lake.

I second what Bsteves said about Hogg's.  It was my first time their and I was really impressed.  They had a few items that I have been looking for but are either always sold out or not carried by some of the larger fishing stores.  I am going to have to make it a stop on my way to Hagg too.

I third what Bsteves and Ndogg said. Great shop, selection, prices and staff.

I want my very own Hoggs on the East side of town. However, it's probably safer for my wallet that it's over an hour away from me.
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

If you didn't notice, I've broken the directions for the Clinic off into a new thread:  http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=10294.new#new

I just saw on iFish that a boat on the Cowlitz was cited for openly picking dying smelt off the surface today and keeping them. Much like the dying floaters we saw last Saturday at the "on the water clinic", it is illegal to retain smelt right now on the Columbia as well as the Cowlitz.
Apparently fish and game saw these guys having a field day with the smelt. Cited them $100 a fish. They had a full 5 gallon bucket. Whoopsie.

It makes enforcement crystal clear.  Picture this ... some poachers ger pulled over with a bucket of smelt, "honestly officer, they were floaters".  Then what happens?

I'd add to that:  Even dead things serve a purpose in the ecosystem.  Dead smelt are a food source to something else.

I've never actually seen anything prohibiting antlers though, where did you pull that from?  It's pretty easy to tell the difference between a shed and a ripped out/sawed off antler - or what's more common, the whole head with the antlers still attached.  But even there, antlers are eaten by smaller creatures which use them as a good source of nutrients.

These fish are also endangered which is probably another reason for the zero tolerance.
