I picked up a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4 camera @ Costco for $200.
The first impressions are that is a good water proof camera. I have not had in my kayak yet but have taken it snorkeling and had about 10 feet underwater.
Reading the reviews for this camera it seems to be hit or miss on how waterproof it is. Take out and test it as soon as you can.
The highlights:
12 meg CCd, GPS, waterproof to 10 meters, 1080p.
Keep in mind that this is the time of year for camera releases and some good deals can be found on a lot of waterproof cameras on the internet.
The Nikon AW100 is being replaced by the AW101 adds wifi. The TS4 is being replaced by the TS5 adds wifi and 16 meg cmos sensor. It looks like the new thing is adding WIFI to this segment of the camera marked.

I've been eyeballing that cam since I saw it in a paddlers hands a few months back. Heard good things about the lens system and I'm looking forward to your review. Specifically, how's it do in low light in automatic mode?

I've always favored the Pentax point and shoot, but my (4th!) WP is showing its age, not to mention my excessive abuse.

Yes I do. It's a great pocket camera. Fast power up. Short shutter lag. I did some snorkeling with it. For kayaking I use a  float on it in case I dropped it into the water.
