I just noticed a Google ad on this site for Erik "KzReelRods" Kunz's floating gaffs.  Erik is a well respected NCKA member (Z would call him an "OG") and besides making some of the best custom kayak fishing rods out there he started making floating gaffs a couple years ago.

Anyway, I own one and would highly recommend anyone in the market for a gaff to consider having Erik make you a custom one.

They come in a variety of colors, lengths and hook types as well as optional logo and text added.  I'm pretty sure we can get him to make some with the NWKA logo as well.

Very few fish you can actually legally gaff up here in WA ... I don't even bring a gaff with me unless I'm halibut fishing.

Nice gaffs Erik has though!!!

EK is an OG for sure! ;) I'd have to agree w/ B on this. I got one of his gaffs and it's as sweet as they get. Not only a functional kayak-specific piece of equipment but a handmade work of art. Can't wait to get a rod from him. The baddest kayak fishing bling out there IMO.

Here's my favorite rod from his collection.

Bummer. Not sure what happened but I know he's always got a full schedule. I wanted to get a rod but missed my spot. Someday I will be swinging an EK rod. 8)

EK is usually quite responsive ... but if he dropped your email, I think we'll have to hit him up for a gaff for AOTY.   ;D

Related to lead times, I think he's full up on rod orders this year ... I recall a post to that effect on NCKA.  But don't hold me to it.  It doesn't hurt to ask, and ask again.

was visiting his site not long ago, and i think there was a note on the front page from him saying he was full up on orders and was not taking any more for the year..

would love to have him build an acid wrapped rod for me in my personal colors and logo.
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

Hey Guys... nice site you have here!

Brian, Z, Polepole... thanks for the plug.  I wish I had more time to build rods but family has to come first (oh, and then the job that actually pays the bills).  Anyway, when I have time to take more orders (hopefully this fall), I'll be sure to let my kayak fishing kin know about it first. Those are the rods I like building best.

I tried to order a rod from him a year or more ago...never got a response :(

Sorry 'bout that.  I try hard to respond to every one of my emails, especially order requests.  You may have fallen prey to my spam filter >:D.  My apologies.

Again... nice site you all have here... nice to see the kayak fishing madness coming together to the north.

Erik

I just saw on NCKA that Erik is back in production on the gaffs with a current turn around of about one week.  I guess these are big no-no in WA for rockfish and lings, but here in Oregon they are great.

I don't know what his current turn around is for custom reels.

I email him about a week or two ago hoping to order a gaff, at that time he wasn't building any yet (he got right back to me and was very nice ;D) I will check back today. Would love to have one of those!

I will check back today. I will check back today.

When you do, ask him about whether he'd be able to use the NWKA logo in your customization.  I think Zee can send him the graphics necessary files if he needs them.

I ordered on last Thursday when he began taking orders again. I ordered it with the NCKA logo but it would be great if I could get it with the NWKA logo instead.

I just got a PM from Erik.  Sounds like he's getting the logo from Zee and it's not a problem to for him to use it instead of the NCKA logo.  I let him know about the recent orders from PelagicPaddler and Steelheadr so you guys should be all set.
