What do you choose, and why?

Both.

Dino put a Ram mount for the fish finder on my yak when he still owned it, and Scotty bases are great for lots of different rod holders.

Whatever seems to work best for the given application (or comes already attached to the yak) is my criteria.

I choose Scotty because the mounts are pretty flush.  I don't like having little balls sticking out of my yak everywhere.  With the new clutch disks, there's a much greater range of positioning available now too.

Both--I have the ram mounts on my wooden haka for my plotter and antenna but not on my yaks for the same reason Spot mentioned--I don't like the ram balls on my yak when unloading etc. i also have Railblaza mounts and rod holders for my outrigger bars. Victoria is Scotty central--it's a pain to get anything else even if you want to cause everyone carries mostly Scotty. In support of Scotty, I do love the fact that they service my power downriggers for my pb and even replace parts for free! Can't beat that .

RAM for light stuff like fishfinders.  I know people swear by them but I can't get them to lock down onto my big trolling rig rods.

If you are thinking about buying a fishing rod holder, I would HIGHLY recommend looking at the folbe holders.  They have a flush mounts like Scottie but their action is great.  No more troubles getting rod out of the holder when a fish is burning drag or you are hung up on the bottom!

Both. I have a Scotty rod holder and a RAM mount for my ff. The RAM is nice to move around because it is mounted in the mast mount on the Revo. The Scotty locks in the rod nice and secure. Both systems have a ton of accessories to choose from.

Ram for the FF because of the easy angle adjustment. Scotty for everything else because of the way it locks into place, as well as the vast variety of accessories.

Exactly the same,  and for the same reason as Rom...     My pole holder base is mounted far enough forward that I need an extender to bring it back to be within my easy reach.  Pretty cheap to do with some inexpensive Scotty products.  If the same can be done with RAM products, it would be pretty spendy.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

I too already have the ram mount in the mast hole for my FF.  Truth be told I am leaning towards the forward Scotty mounts for trolling, for basically the same reasons you all outline - but I like to make sure someone hasn't cooked up something better first.

FF on ram mount so I can move it just right for the sun and my seat angle and Scotty for everything else.

Both are great products,'but be picky about how and where you mount your accessories.  It might tKe a few tries (extra holes), but you will find a system you like for your style of fishing.

My advice.  Fish without anything a few times and see what you'll encounter.  Then you'll be talking to yourself ...."hmmmm it would be nice if I had this here, etc.."
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

I'm pissed at Scotty. I bought a bucket of 0590 clips. Was supposed to be 100 in there, but there were only 98. "I want my two dollars."

I do love that Scotty Orca, if you're not in a Hobie, it's nice to be able to drop the paddle and grab the rod.

RAM on the ff.

That's unacceptable. Write Scotty and tell those bitches to send you your 2 clips. ;)

I'm a "both" user as well.  Before Scotty had the accessories for infinite adjustments, I used a Ram base to a RAM arm to a  Scotty base with a Scotty Powerlock rod holder.  I've just always liked the Scotty rod holder more, and the RAM bases more.  Lately I've been using more Scotty bases though.  But RAM has more accessory mount options.  I guess I just use whatever I feel is currently more well suited for whatever the job is I have at hand.

I use both as well.  The last few times out I have been using a Ram rod holder, but before that I was using a Scotty.  I like them both.  I recommend installing a gear track and then you can switch back and forth.

I also like the RAM mount for my FF.  I've only used Scotty mounts for my rod holders so can't compare the two for that application.  I was about to switch to a RAM rod holder because it didn't seem like I could ever get my Scotty in that "sweet spot", but those new slip disks are awesome and have taken care of that problem.
