Yep, looks like we'll have 2 NWKA teams. Last year we called ourselves NWKA Ninkasi (in camp). I'll be on that one again this year. What's the 2nd team gonna be? What team will you be on? Let me know so we can register the teams. How many camping? Who's in the house? Will that be the 2nd team? Suggestions please.

I blew it and never tried the Ninkasi last year!  (I know!)  Hopefully I'll have another chance this year.   :)
See you at Gimme Shelter

I'll be in the campground with you Paul. Sounds like the house is going to be full anyway. I'd rather sleep on the queen size memory foam and all the comforts of my own camper than on the floor and sharing the bathroom with 7 men!  ::)

I really don't care which team I'm on, as I'm going for fun rather than the competition. But that doesn't mean I'm not bringing my "A" game worthy of the A-Team!

Team name suggestions:
1, Ninkasi and 2. NWKA
NinWaKsA (1 & 2)

The competition is a good one, but the FUN overshadows it for 99% of attendees I'd say.  My view is no doubt skewed, but in general the catching of the biggest or most fish takes a back seat to the spirit of the group activities, meeting new people, seeing old friends, enjoying a wild place in Nature, and letting your hair down for a few days.

I've lost a chinook at the net each of the last two events (pre-fish at GS5 and two days after GS6), so I may just be in complete denial of my own competitive suppression attempt!

Catch a salmon or a halibut along with lingcod, rockfish, greenling and cabezon, and you will have an excellent chance of winning.

Bring a focus on fun and you will have an even better chance of achieving your goal.   :)
See you at Gimme Shelter

I'm wanting the same name as last year for Team 1 (NWKA Ninkasi or maybe niNWKAsi). That's the team I'll be on. You're welcome to be on it also. That will make 3 so far. Time to join.

NWKA Teams

NWKA 1:
Abulencia, Dino / islandson671
Abiva, Roland / PDW9MM
Hayashibara, John / bluewrx02
Rhetta, Eric / OlySpec
Sansano, Allen / polepole

niNWKAsi:
Hilden, Dana / Yaksurf
Mason, David Kent / Goldendog
Meyers, Eric / eddeeleo
Schmidt, Erik / Browneyesvictim
Walker, Paul / PNW

Both teams look to have some kick-a$$ anglers. Allen accepted my invitation to be on an NWKA team. I took the liberty of adding him to the WA contingent.

Great job, Guys.  Stoked to have a strong contingent of NWKA members joining NCKA as true Nor Cal Kayak Anglers.   :)

Strong work with the two 5 man teams.  You guys have a great chance to score high.  Shelter Cove's more like the PNW than most of the rest of California.

Bring your salmon gear.  The wind has been blowing almost non-stop, so by the time it quits there will be some nice production.  More 4 year old fish are expected this year down here - be ready with good leaders.  We have a great chance to see quite a few kings around 8 to 10 pounds and maybe some 20's...  I like straight anchovies trolled behind a Herring Dodger and DeepSix, but cut herring and Apex's also do well here.  A legal mooching rig here is two fixed barbless circle hooks no more than 5" apart - that rig behind a banana weight can catch all species right out front at Shelter Cove.

Just confirming that I'll be there and proud to fish on NWKA1.  Where are you all staying?

FYI- When I called Shelter Cove to make a reservation in the campground, I was told, I didn't need a reservation, and that because they have our group area reserved we just need to show up, but just make sure its during daylight hours. I will be driving Wednesday night, and perhaps catch a couple winks somewhere along the the way to be there by morning.

As far as I know it's just me and Paul (PNW) in the campground from our group. If I'm not mistaken, everyone else is staying at the house with the exception of Dana (Yaksurf) who's staying with local relatives.
