I don't soak it, it's more like just a quick submerse. I dunk it and shake it out really well. Still sounds like it isn't the best method though. Thanks for the tips.

Some very good info here, thanks gentlemen. It looks like I will be doing some shopping for new gear. What a shame.  :D

I am another one that will rinse gear off well with a garden hose.  I think another thing to consider after rinsing them is letting them sit a bit with the drain holes down, for reels that have them.  This allows any water that has entered the reel, a chance to drain out.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

I use a stout Ugly Stik and an ABU BG7001HS for bottom fishing.

I use the same as bsteves suggests for salmon trolling, a 8'6" MH Berkley Air IM8 rod, and an ABU 6601C4.

I'm a righty but crank lefty.

After EVERY trip I hit the rods and reels and other gear hard with a hose.  Store with the drain holes down and let dry.  Like rawkfish, once a winter or spring I tear down all the reels and re-coat with marine grease.  My ABU C4s are pushing 8 years old.

For light spinning gear (PINKS!) I use a medium 8'6" IM8 with a Shimano Spheros SP4000FA.
