Hi everyone, I just wanted to say an introduction to the board.  I recently moved from California up to Portland.  I have been kayak fishing in California, from Malibu to Big Sur and mothership trips to the Channel Islands for about 8 years now.  I've predominantly fished inshore for Calicos, Halibut, White Sea Bass and Rockfish, my favorite by far was Calico fishing with swimbaits.  So I've brought up my fully rigged OK Prowler (FF,bait, gps) and am ready to start putting in some time here.

By the looks of it, you guys got quite the array of fisheries here.  It's hard to figure out which one I would like to get into, time will tell.

Well hope to fish with some of you guys sometime, see you on the water!

- Garrett

Welcome! Don't have anything like the channel islands here but the local waters will certainly keep you busy!

Fishing for black rockfish in the ocean on light tackle with swimbaits will probably be your best best in trying to substitute your calico fishing urges around here.  Unlike most of the rockfish in Southern California, the black rockfish here will take lures fairly shallow.

Yeah, what bsteves said.  Most all of your baits for fishing for calicos will work perfectly for rockfish.  My favorite swimbait patterns that caught lots of calicos down in San Diego are just as good up here for black rockfish and even lings and cabezon.
