No, west side of Oahu. And what an awesome experience, I've had some close encounters with big sharks, but nothing that dramatic. It'll be a cool story to tell the grand kids some day.

Am I the only one then that's thinking that it would have been fun to quickly send out a bait rig to try and catch the shark?

They aren't as much fun to catch as you think. They are strong for sure, but don't generally fight that hard. Mostly just a lot of work, and you lose your rig, too.

My office mate just pointed this video out to me on CNN, it's defiantly gone viral.

Do you think I could get a viral video if a Steller sealion stole a salmon from me on video?  Oh wait, I'd need a GoPro and I'd have to catch a salmon first.    Okay, let me re-phrase that.. do you think Jammer or Rawkfish could get a viral video if a Steller sealion stole a salmon from them on video?

I'm not sure one is scarier then the other, but I'm guessing the public has an innate fear of sharks and a warm fuzzy feeling about sea lions.

I'd be OK with experimental testing of that hypothesis.

Some guys did a video while catching pinks in a harbor in alaska. They where in rubber rafts, but the salmon sharks pulled them all over.

I agree Bsteves. While not a sea lion video this would scare me more than a shark or sea lion for sure.

I'm pretty sure that's a sea lion.
