Have you caught one on that set up yet?

I'm curious as well. That Raptor is a beast. I'm curios how it handled!

The raptor far exceeds any reel I have ever owned or used in any aspect, casting with the magnet cast is something comparable to complete ecstasy, 5' and unders are brought in smooth like fine silk and line retrieve at 38" per crank in hi gear is a real treat when checking bait. I am absolutely infatuated with this magnificent creature and I can't forget the ability to adjust the strike to an incredible 28lbs of drag and a max drag of 40lbs you can tow a tractor. Amazing bi tell you.

Wow ....   Why do I picture you sitting back and smoking a cigarette after landing a sturgeon  ;D

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

Don't wait till you have the perfect rod and reel to enjoy the fun.  My buddy and I needed to feel a bend after trolling half of Sunday so we anchored up and tossed the rest of our baits at dinos with our salmon rods.  I was amazed how much abuse my Medium Light Daiwa DXS salmon rod can take.  I think we picked up fish on every bait we threw. Nothing huge but we did get a few to 40".

That's interesting.  When we were out Sunday, KayakBernie hung up, and then a 3ft sturgeon pulled it loose for him.  I hung up, then had something start tugging, but never could get it loose... finally broke off my 25# leader above both hooks.  Speaking of hooks, what's the proper size and style to use if you're targeting the "dinos"? Circle?

Depending on the bait I use anything from a 6/0 to a 10/0

Oversize and Keeper sized fish are apples and oranges as far as technique/gear goes.  If I'm targeting keeper sized fish I fish a heavy salmon rod every time and will out fish those fishing the heavy gear 5 to 1.

Yup, I've seen you do that.... on the very rod I was fishing Sunday.

How do you "target" fish by size? Bait size? Location? Technique?

Big fish = big bait
Big bait = big hook

Yes, I agree... Big bait. We never got a small sturgeon when throwing out big bait.

Pretty common to see a full sized Shad used for the big ones.
